|Originally a brewery, the Fleurieu project was fully transformed into a distillery in 2017. Located in Goolwa, South Australia, Gareth and Angela Andrews released 800 bottles in 2018 of which we have a handful to sell. The whiskies have already been awarded gold and silver medals in local and international competitions.
Tasting note: [20ml sample] Matured in 100L Port barrels. Polished copper. Caramel fudge, milk chocolate and a touch of vanilla wafer to the opening pass. Later inhalations suggest grain store, lucerne mulch… Sweet, dense and supple malt finishing with nuances of vanilla, toasted grains or over-baked sponge cake (borderline smokey)…Oily, chewy, almost toffeed, before the astringency and spices overtake the latent sugars. A bit of an attack but the balance is good for the ABV. As is the length. Excellent inaugural bottling. 52% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered. 800 bottles.
